Introduction

Blessings are sometimes hidden deep inside of tragedy. Over the years, I have had the privilege of getting to know my son on a level that would have not been possible without these circumstances. Together, we have learned to pull positive from every negative.

Through consistently written letters, I have seen him grow from a teenager into a man. I have seen his growth mentally, spiritually and artistically. From all the pain and injustices that he has gone through in his short life, he has every reason to be embittered and angry. Yet, he has found the strength to grow and turn this hell on earth into a positive learning experience.

Words written from his prison cell encourage, enlighten and uplift. My son’s letters are more precious than gold. His words are very powerful and wise. In the last five years, he has become practiced in yoga, meditation, and native sweat ceremonies. He has studied various spiritual philosophies, Native American beliefs and quantum physics to name just a few.

Even though Charlie’s words were written to me, I know that they are meant to be shared with the world. I have saved all of his letters in chronological order. I was looking for a publisher for this collection. However, it was through the advice of a publisher that i have created this Blog. She told me that I could possibly "get a much bigger readership than from a book".

Charlie's letters to me began in 2003. It is my goal to chronologically post one of his letters every week (or so) - starting with the first and moving towards the present.

I am looking forward to sharing my son's words with you all.
[Please note that given the current situation of my son- i am protecting him by protecting his identity until he is released.]
